In veterinary circles, we sometimes think of BRD management as a triad with three points of influence — the pathogen, the animal and husbandry practices. Understanding each point can help veterinarians and producers focus on the essential elements (i.e., trigger points) that may contribute to BRD, possibly leading to prevention or early detection/treatment.
The fight against BRD begins with the animal. BRD is well known in the cattle industry as one of the most devastating and costly diseases that cattle producers face. Even with many vaccines and antibiotics on the market, BRD still causes almost 40% of all cattle mortality (death) in the United States.1
